JOURNEY ON THE JERICHO ROAD
Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church Men’s Ministry

Goal: To be men focused on God’s heart.
Vision: “We are men who, with the power of God and His gospel, seek to develop authentic, caring relationships and show our faith in helping people in need, in our church, community, and the world.”
Journey Elements: The journey on the Jericho Road will be characterized by:
- Helping people in our church, community, and the world
- Mentoring young men / fathers as they journey on the Jericho Road
- Developing life-long friendships and relationships with other men through shared experiences and accomplishments
- Strengthening our faith and accountability within authentic trusting male relationships
- Challenging other men to develop deeper relationships with God
- Leading our families in God-honouring ways based on biblical expectations and principles
- Pursuing spiritual growth through prayer, the study of God’s word, and faith in action
Jericho Road Activities: Men travelling the Jericho road will show their faith in action by participation in activities such as:
- Conducting home repairs / renovations for those unable to do so themselves
- Completing yard maintenance and snow shovelling for members of our community unable to do so themselves
- Providing support to local community groups
- Repairing vehicles for members of our community unable to do so themselves
- Mentoring young men / fathers
Relationship Building: Men traveling together on the Jericho Road will build strong faith-based relationships with each other as we:
- Develop a shared sense of accomplishment by collectively helping others
- Share common experiences through participation in Jericho Road activities
- Identify common-interests and circumstances in our lives through which we can regularly and authentically interact with others.
- Build trust and accountability with other men with whom we have partnered to show God’s love in action
Fellowship Activities: Men will undertake large and small fellowship activities each year, including:
- Quarterly Men’s Breakfast where potential Jericho Road activities and bible study topics for the Quarter will be reviewed / selected
- Summer Golf tournament aimed at strengthening existing and developing new relationships
- Year-round community Sports Drop-in evenings to provide opportunities to meet new men and strengthen our relationships
- Weekly mid-day Men’s Fellowship Meetings
- Other ad-hoc social events (eg. wing nights, hockey games, movies, Super Bowl parties, etc)
Spiritual Development: Men will develop and strengthen their spiritual walk through:
- Living out our faith through action
- Mentoring, and being mentored by, other men
- Enhancing our knowledge of God through regular individual and group bible study
- Defining and developing ways to easily share our personal testimony during Jericho Road activities with non-Christian men and families
- Regular and focused prayer
- Rediscovering and applying our biblical leadership responsibilities within our families, church, and community
