Holly Gautreau grew up living on an acreage with her family of five just outside of Beaumont Alberta. They lived there until around 2009 when her family moved to a new anchorage just outside of Sherwood Park. Holly’s family grew when they added two permanent foster care children to their numbers, as the previous youngest, Holly now became a proud older sister. She was home schooled from kindergarten to grade 12 and upon graduation Holly decided to fly to Australia for a six month discipleship program called YWAM (Youth With A Mission). YWAM ignited Holly’s passion for missions and ministry. Upon her completion of the course she knew God had called her to the mission field and as such she enrolled in a one year world discipleship certificate program at Vanguard Bible College. As part of the program Holly got to travel to Asia and engage in two months of mission work there. This trip again fueled Holly’s passion for ministry and she decided to enroll in a four year Child and Youth Care Degree program at McEwan University with the hopes that it would equipped her with the skills and knowledge she needed to engage local missions among the vulnerable and at-risk community here in Edmonton. Throughout her schooling Holly interned at her home church as the elementary children’s director during the summer months. Holly absolutely loved this position and looked forward to it every summer. She especially loved engaging the young children in God’s word and seeing them develop a personal relationship with Him. Through her degree Holly realized that Children’s Ministry was the mission she felt God was calling her toward and as such she was led to Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church.
As SVBC’s Children’s Director Holly is doing what she loves and she is extremely thankful to God for having led her here. She is living out both her passion and her calling.
