Thanksgiving in Canada looks like it will be quite different this year. In some parts of the country we’re experiencing a second wave of Covid-19. Our provincial government has even come out with guidelines for hosting Thanksgiving holiday gatherings in an attempt to prevent the spread.

Yet whether or not we can actually gather like normal for Thanksgiving this year, there is still great value in practicing thankfulness not just at Thanksgiving but every day of the year. This week, we will look at Thanksgiving Psalm that helps us see reasons for thankfulness.

Psalm 107:1-9 (ESV)
107 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble[a]
3 and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.
4 Some wandered in desert wastes,
finding no way to a city to dwell in;
5 hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.
6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
7 He led them by a straight way
till they reached a city to dwell in.
8 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

We find the steadfast love of the Lord throughout the Old Testament of the Bible. It refers to God’s consistent, covenant-keeping love that does not depend on feelings. We can rest in such steadfast love when through turbulent times. In these verses, the people wandered, thirsted, hungered and fainted. They cry out to the Lord in their trouble. He delivered them.

God is a home for the wandering, fulfillment for the hungry, quenching for the thirsty and reviving for the faint. If you know God, do you remember all the times He has steadfastly loved you, provided satisfaction and filled your hungry soul with good things? Then give thanks to the Lord for his steadfast love and His wonderful works.

Thank you Lord for steadfast love in a world of fickle love. Help us to see and remember the many ways your consistent love has carried us through tough times and forgiven us for wandering Help us share about your love with someone this week
