Today I want to talk about help. This Sunday, I will be speaking from Psalm 121. It starts out like this. “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

Now it’s encouraging when people offer help. It is meaningful if someone offers to pick up groceries for a senior. An offer of prayer or a phone call during this time can provide great encouragement. But every one of us has limitations. We have limited strength; limited time; limited finances; limited knowledge and limited attention spans. Though we can bear one another burdens, no one compares to the Lord in His ability to help.

The richest person on earth does not come close to the resources of the “Lord who made heaven and earth.” The smartest person on earth does not begin to rival the knowledge of the “Lord how made heaven and earth.” The most generous person on earth cannot out do the generosity of the “Lord who made heaven and earth.”

Where does our help come from? Our help, my help, your help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. He made the universe and all its galaxies. He made the stars and our sun. He made our vast planet with its waters and mountains. He made all living creatures and all people.

When we cry out to the Lord for help, its not like phoning a help line experiencing a high volume of calls or a website overloaded by inquiries. We cry out to One with infinite capacity, resources, love and help.

So remember the Lord’s help today for whatever you face.

Psalm 22:19 – But you, O Lord, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid!

Psalm 28:7 - The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Psalm 30:2 - O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

Psalm 40:17 - As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!

Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 124:8 - Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 146:5 - Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,

John 14:16 - And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,

John 14:26 - But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
