James 2:1-13

It is Father’s Day.  On it, we naturally think of our fathers or those who played that role in our lives.  Some of us think of fathers who loved us well and cared for us as best as they could.  Some had little or no relationship with their father.  Some would like to forget their father because of the difficulties they brought into our lives.  Some grieve for their dad today or miss them because they’re far away.   Father’s Day can bring up many emotions and thoughts. Father’s Day also gives fathers and grandfathers an opportunity to think about our role.  Fatherhood is both a both a blessing and a responsibility.  It is a great joy and challenge to have children.  We’re amazed to see these little babies turn into little walking people who then grow and go to school. Then they graduate and we suddenly have a young adult child in our lives.  Many of you have seen children move out and get on with life more independently from you.  Some have gotten married and had their own children.
