LMO Winter Session begins January 9, 2020 ~ All Ladies Welcome!
Studies for Winter 2020:
An Inductive Study of the Books of Ezra & Nehemiah
Would you like to spend more time reading your Bible, but you just don’t know where to start? Or when you do find the time, you feel overwhelmed, wondering if you are missing important details from the text? Or perhaps you find yourself drawn to the same books of the Bible over and over, and want to step out of your comfort zone a little? This may be the class for you. We will be doing an inductive study of the books of Ezra & Nehemiah. During this class we will be reading through the books of Ezra & Nehemiah together, learning more about Israel’s return from exile and marveling at God’s faithfulness. In our class time, we will look carefully at the text, exploring the cultural and historical context, noting how this story fits into the bigger story of the Bible, and analyzing keywords and themes - all with the goal of knowing and loving God better. There will be homework each week - assigned readings and questions to guide your reading. No experience is necessary - this will be a safe place to learn and grow together, no matter the depth of your knowledge of God’s Word. The goals of the class include developing practical skills to help you dig deeper in your Bible study time, an increased confidence in your ability to understand God’s Word, a broader understanding of the Big Story of the Bible, and a deeper hunger for God’s Word.
Ephesians (conclusion) followed by: Isaiah, Calling People Home (8 sessions) by Dr. Charles Price DVD study with discussion. The prophet Isaiah spent most of his life telling people things they needed to hear, but didn’t always like. Specifically he told them what’s wrong with the world, how God would pass His judgement, and then offer comfort and hope. Prophecy is not defined by its content: it’s defined by its origin. This is the Word of God. This is God speaking. Since the fall of man in the garden, we have been born into sin, continually violating God’s moral laws. Sin leads to hardship, death and destruction, but the good news is that God does not abandon us, but meets us in our sin. Through forgiveness and grace, He restores us and gives us new life in Christ. Learn how a restoring, loving God wants to meet YOU in the midst of your troubles and despair, and give you hope for the future.
American Gospel: Christ Alone by Tim Challies, followed by Clouds Without Water by Justin Peters:
American Gospel…is Christianity Christ plus the American dream? We will follow this material with extra sessions from Clouds Without Water, discussing such issues as discernment, dangerous doctrines, mangled manifestations, and healing.
